Business Ethernet

FAQ

What’s the difference between Ethernet and high-speed Internet?

Ethernet is like a private lane on a superhighway: It’s a dedicated slice of bandwidth available only to one customer. Because the bandwidth isn’t shared, data rates can be established and guaranteed, with no variations based on contention levels. You can think of it as an outside extension of a private LAN, or local-area network that shuttles data within an office.

What type of business needs it?

Generally, cable Ethernet is attractive to larger (30 employees and up) businesses and institutions with multiple locations or any business that has a significant need for high-performance networking across multiple sites. Cable Ethernet customers include hospitals, financial institutions, universities and a variety of businesses with more than one location.

What are some common applications?
Large-file transfer, teleconferencing, rich media and access to records from remote locations are examples of common Ethernet uses. Hospitals and health-care providers also rely on cable Ethernet for medical imaging and telemedicine applications.

How much bandwidth is enough?
It varies depending on how much data flow across multiple sites for your business. Cable Ethernet is flexible in that it offers a range of bandwidths to suit business needs, ranging from 1 Mbps to as high as 10 Gbps, with the ability to scale to higher capacity as your demand rises. With cable Ethernet, upgrading is easy: There’s no need to order new circuits or purchase new equipment.

How safe are my data?
Advanced security protocols that keep sensitive data safe are common in cable Ethernet deployments. Also, because cable Ethernet offers a private-network connection, bypassing the public Internet, security is further enhanced.
