High Speed Internet
How It Works
High-speed Internet service flows through a high-capacity network powered by fiber optics to a cable modem inside your home. The modem then connects your computer, home network and Internet appliances to the high-speed cable transmission network.
Cable Internet service works by providing you access to a network that transmits data at extremely fast speeds, with many cable services exceeding 10 megabits per second. The information is sent and received across the cable company’s advanced fiber network, the same network that delivers Digital Cable television and Digital Voice services. Aside from the actual cable modem (which you can lease from your cable company), all you need to get high-speed Internet is either an Ethernet network card or a USB port, which most new computers and Internet-ready devices contain.
