How much does it cost?
Most cable DVR packages are available for a low monthly fee. Your cable DVR equipment is provided for you by your local cable company and built into the set-top box, meaning you don’t have to spend money to buy your own equipment. Better still, as technology improves you won’t be stuck with obsolete equipment. 
Can’t I just get a DVR from a store?
Sure. Popular DVR brands work with any cable, satellite or over-the-air TV signal. The advantage of a cable DVR is that you don’t have to purchase it yourself; instead, in most locations your cable company provides it for you.
What’s the difference between a cable DVR and an independent brand?
A cable DVR is integrated into your digital cable service so that things work together. With an independent, store-bought DVR, you’ll have to adjust to a new on-screen menu that looks and behaves very differently from your digital cable menu. A cable DVR uses the same menu and on-screen system you already know. It makes selecting, recording and playing back recorded shows easier and more intuitive.
Plus, if your store-bought DVR fails to work properly, you’ll have to call a technical-support service, or take it back to the store. Your cable company will provide on-site support for any questions you have about your cable DVR.
Will it work with my TV or home entertainment system?
Yes. You can install it yourself, or your cable company will install your cable DVR professionally for you, ensuring correct integration with all your home entertainment equipment, including DVD players, DVD recorders and more.
Does this mean I need a second cable box?
No. Cable DVR technology is integrated into a digital cable receiver, meaning you require just one set-top box to control all of your digital cable features, plus your DVR applications.
How much TV can I store?
Cable-integrated DVRs range from up to 30 hours of standard-resolution video storage to more than 80 hours. Some cable DVRs also accommodate high-definition TV (HDTV) recording and playback ability. Your cable company can provide you with detail about DVR options available in your area.
Can I use it on any TV in the house?
Yes, your cable DVR can be used with any television set. Some cable companies offer technology that allows you to connect multiple TV sets to DVR service, too.

What’s the difference between a cable DVR and On Demand TV?

Instead, the cable company provides a menu of hundreds of Hollywood hit movies and TV shows for you to choose from. You simply aim your remote control at the menu, choose a title or a show, and hit play. Lots of people who have DVRs also use On Demand TV.
